End restrictions on the Post Office

To: Sen. Husted, Sen. Moreno, Rep. Balderson

From: A verified voter in Athens, OH

May 8

I urge you to take immediate action to keep the post office open and our mail running. The stakes could not be higher -- our public post office is a lifeline for many, especially rural areas that include hundreds of seniors, veterans and Indigenous communities. The March 17 warning from the Postmaster General was clear -- the Postal Service is at a crossroads, facing a serious financial crisis. Without congressional action, the USPS could run out of cash as soon as February of next year. You cannot let this happen. Congress must take immediate action to end decades of bad postal policy that have drained billions from the Postal Service. Untie the Postal Services hands to as the independent corporation it was meant to be. Free the USPS to operate as it should. Also, you must reject any and all attempts to privatize the Postal Service. Privatization would only make matters worse as it would lead to higher prices, reduced service, and the abandonment of rural and underserved communities. The USPS exists to provide universal service, not to maximize profit. Congress has the authority and responsibility to correct these restrictive policies and allow the post office the breathing room it needs to build a sustainable future. Removing these restrictions will save the agency billions of dollars each year while still continuing to deliver our mail and serving the public effectively. You must act now to preserve the USPS as a public institution that serves all of us and meets the challenges of the next 250 years.
