Russell Vought believes the Trump regime can ignore Congress, the Constitution, and the idea of checks and balances that is the foundation of our country’s system of government. Under Vought’s “leadership,” the regime is doing just that — through illegal impoundments and rescissions of congressionally approved funding, and through massive (and legally dubious) job cuts all across the federal government. Over the weekend, a group of senators called for Vought to resign, noting: “Vought’s weaponization of the federal government and disregard for the rule of law threatens the very checks and balances that make our system of government work.” Russell Vought is circumventing the law and the role of Congress as a coequal branch of the federal government. Every senator and representative, regardless of party, should resent what Vought is doing to undercut Congress’s own power. For the sake of preserving the House and Senate as viable enterprises — and for the sake of the American people you are supposed to represent — we are calling on every member of Congress to do everything in your power to fight Vought and force him out of office.
