The Trump administration, along with Elon Musk’s staffers, has jeopardized the security of the C.I.A. by making employee names public—a move both illegal and dangerous. Current officials confirmed that the C.I.A. sent employee names to the Office of Personnel Management, complying with an executive order signed by President Trump. The administration downplayed security concerns, arguing that only first names and initials of probationary employees were provided, in the hope that this limited information would offer some protection. However, names and initials can easily be cross-referenced with other sources, such as driver’s license and vehicle registration databases, social media profiles, and publicly available information from universities that serve as agency recruiting grounds. This could enable adversaries to piece together a more complete and highly sensitive list of C.I.A. employees. Americans’ lives are at risk. The work they do can only be achieved if their identities are protected. This puts the safety of our nation at risk and weakens us. WHEN WILL CONGRESS ACT?
