Preserve the Name Lake Ontario

To: Rep. Bergman

From: A verified voter in Marquette, MI

August 28

I’m writing to ask you to oppose President Trump’s decision to rename Lake Ontario “Lake America.” The Great Lakes are an important part of our history, identity, economy, and relationship with Canada. Lake Ontario has carried its name for centuries, and I just don’t see what we gain by changing it. Do you support this decision? If not, will you publicly oppose it and support congressional action to preserve the historic name of Lake Ontario? I don’t think conserving our history and respecting the longstanding identity of the Great Lakes should be a partisan issue. I’d sincerely appreciate a response explaining your position. Thank you for representing Northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula.
