The Continuing Resolution (CR) proposed by Speaker Mike Johnson is concerning as it includes several damaging provisions that undermine our democratic institutions. Increasing defense and ICE spending while cutting crucial non-defense programs like FEMA, the Small Business Administration, clean water projects, and grants for healthcare facilities and equipment is misguided and harmful to the American people. Moreover, the attempt to seize control over Washington D.C.'s budget and turn it into a federal agency is a blatant power grab that violates principles of local governance. Most alarmingly, the CR fails to address the ongoing threat posed by the rogue DOGE agency and its leader, Elon Musk, who have illegally commandeered control over the federal government's workforce and spending. This unchecked overreach represents a serious Constitutional crisis that Congress must urgently confront. I urge you to reject this partisan CR and instead pass a clean, straightforward bill that funds the government without ideological riders or concessions to unelected billionaires. Congress has a responsibility to uphold the separation of powers and reassert its authority over federal spending. Any CR must include robust, enforceable guardrails to rein in DOGE's unlawful actions and restore democratic accountability. Failure to do so would enable further erosion of our democratic norms and institutions. Please stand firm in defense of our Constitution and the rule of law.
