“The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.” The recent immigration enforcement raids in Chicago have blatantly violated the U.S. Constitution’s Fourth Amendment on multiple counts: • Unidentified “federal agents” dropped onto a residential apartment building and deployed tear gas against American civilians. • Those “agents” tore naked children from their mothers and tossed them into unmarked vans. • United States citizens had their doors kicked in, were zip tied and detained for hours. • Many residents returned home to find their belongings damaged or stolen. No charges were filed against the detained Americans. No Miranda rights were read. No due process was given. That is NOT law enforcement. That is illegal extra-judicial abduction. Of non-criminals and children. By anonymous armed thugs. These actions do not make us safer, more prosperous or better in any way These reckless, poorly-trained “officers,” masquerading as law enforcement, are a threat to public safety and are terrorizing the civilian population. In 1930s and 40s Germany, Gestapo agents were required to show badges and badge numbers. They were not allowed to wear face masks. Unidentifiable ICE “agents,” or contactors, are being held to lower standards than the Gestapo. By refusing to speak out against these actions, to, you are complicit in this. My wife and I urge you to rein in ICE’s Fourth Amendment violations and stop these abductions of non-criminal Americans.
