I am writing to urge you to cosponsor the Protect America’s Workforce Act, which is essential to safeguarding the rights of federal employees and ensuring the continued effectiveness of our public services. Federal law explicitly grants federal employees the right to bargain collectively. However, the recent executive order that effectively abolishes this right for most federal workers under the pretense of national security is a blatant attempt to silence our nation’s public servants. This order reclassifies nearly two-thirds of the federal workforce as having national security missions—an abuse of authority designed to make it easier to fire employees without due process or union representation. Federal employees play a critical role in delivering vital services to the American people. Their collective bargaining agreements ensure fair treatment, workplace stability, and operational efficiency. Undermining these agreements not only threatens workers’ rights but also diminishes morale, accountability, and overall agency performance. While we all support efforts to improve government efficiency, sweeping national security exemptions jeopardize the integrity of public service and ultimately do more harm than good. President Trump’s executive order is not only unjust but also unconstitutional. Collective bargaining has long been a crucial tool for fostering open communication between employees and management, contributing to a more effective and stable workforce that, in turn, enhances national security. I urge you to stand with America’s public servants by cosponsoring the Protect America’s Workforce Act. This legislation is necessary to restore federal employees’ bargaining rights and to uphold the principles of fairness, stability, and accountability in our government agencies.
