Vote No on H.R. 1897 to Protect the Endangered Species Act

To: Sen. Schiff, Sen. Padilla, Rep. McClintock

From: A constituent in El Dorado Hills, CA

April 22

Vote no on H.R. 1897, the so-called "ESA Amendments Act," when it comes to the floor on April 22. This bill would gut the Endangered Species Act and threaten thousands of imperiled species with extinction. The ESA has been remarkably successful for over 35 years, saving 99 percent of listed species from extinction. H.R. 1897 would undermine that success by fast-tracking delistings before species recover, allowing more killing and harassment of threatened animals, and dismantling the scientific consultation process. Species like grizzly bears, wolverines, Canada lynx, and Florida manatees would lose critical protections, even in designated Wilderness areas. Americans want our wilderness areas and the living things that call them home protected. This legislation does the opposite. It prioritizes exploitation over conservation and politics over science. I expect you to stand with the overwhelming majority of Americans who support strong protections for endangered species and vote no on H.R. 1897.
