NO to Chuck Schumer as Senate Majority Leader
To: Sen. Wyden, Sen. Merkley
From: A verified voter in Albany, OR
November 4
As a constituent of yours and a politically engaged citizen, I wanted to convey my concern regarding an upcoming vote for Senate Majority Leader. This midterm election has resulted in some of the most incredible gains the Democratic party has seen in recent history. Do not take this as a statement of our love and adoration of the Democratic establishment. Be clear eyed that this was a resolute rebuke on the current state of the economy and the Trump administration. What people are wanting is decency, accountability, and change. No longer can we operate business as usual. The democratic establishment has lost the trust of the people, particularly its party leaders. I encourage you and your colleagues in the Senate to consider a Senate Majority Leader other than Chuck Schumer. He has failed us on so many levels. 1 March 2025 stopgap vote. He provided the votes that let Republicans pass a stopgap spending bill. 2 The fall 2025 shutdown. Democrats ended a 43-day shutdown empty-handed after demanding an extension of the Obamacare subsidies. He failed to either keep the caucus together or failed to broker any concessions. 3 Weak public standing. A Pew survey from September 2025 found him the least popular Democratic Senate leader on record, underwater even with Democrats. A Siena poll found 50% of New York voters viewed him unfavorably. 4 Messaging and optics. His February 2025 Treasury Department protest, where he chanted "We will win," was completely out of touch with the public. 5 Intra-party friction. Rep. Mark Pocan accused him of failing to back Zohran Mamdani in the New York mayoral race. Schumer supported Haley Stevens and Janet Mills, whose campaigns ultimately failed and reflect on his poor judgement overall. 6 Failed to recognize competitive Senate races such as Florida and Mississippi and didn’t provide support for those campaigns. 7 The most damning of all, he lacks vision for this country and for our future. He will be just as ineffective as Senate Majority Leader as he has been Senate Minority Leader. I implore you to consider voting for a different Senate Majority Leader that will be able to restore people’s faith in our government by holding people in power and with wealth accountable for their crimes and corruption, and will be able to lead and bring about effective change that this county sorely needs.
