Haste Makes Waste—Give budget bill the time it deserves.
The budget bill before the Senate is large and complicated. Trying to push this legislation down our throats is a recipe for disaster. Funding rural hospitals, ensuring our seniors and most vulnerable keep their healthcare, protecting working families…these are important issues that deserve nuanced, reasonable debate and robust attention to detail.
After H.R. 1 passed the House by a single vote, numerous Representatives who were “Yes” votes expressed shock at some of the provisions they voted for and admitted they didn’t read the bill in its entirety. This is unacceptable—the American people can’t afford buyer’s remorse. Rushing to pass a bad bill, or a half-baked bill, or an unread bill, just to meet an arbitrary deadline will only hurt us, your constituents, real people whose well-being is tied up in this legislation.
Dot the I’s and cross the T’s. Make sure what you vote for is what you want for the American people. Please don’t sell us out in exchange for a billionaire tax cut.
