Regulate Corporate Power and Reverse Citizens United

To: Rep. Chu, Sen. Padilla, Sen. Schiff

From: A verified voter in Pasadena, CA

September 23

The concentration of wealth and political power in this country has reached a breaking point, and you need to act. Pass meaningful corporate regulation, and fight to reverse Citizens United — the Supreme Court decision that turned our democracy into an auction house for billionaires. Sen. Bernie Sanders said it plainly at Riverside Church last week: "Never before in human history have so few people held so much wealth and so much power." He's right. Oligarchs are buying elections, capturing regulators, and shaping policy to serve themselves while wages get swallowed by rising costs and communities are gutted. Citizens United made this worse by treating unlimited corporate spending as free speech. It isn't. It's corruption with a legal veneer. This country belongs to all of us. Pass legislation to cap corporate political spending, strengthen antitrust enforcement, and support a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United. The people who sent you to office are not corporations — govern like it.
