Sen. Kennedy's Questioning of Maya Berry
To: Sen. Padilla, Sen. Butler
From: A verified voter in Sherman Oaks, CA
September 19
I know that grandstanding is something that happens all the time in government, especially in the US Congress. But never have I heard such repulsive, xenophobic, and outright bigoted grandstanding as what was directed to Maya Berry, the executive director of the Arab American Institute, by your colleague from the state of Louisiana, John Neely Kennedy.
The line of questioning concerning whether or not Ms. Berry supported terrorists was unimaginably hideous and its hatred and tone. It also brought shame to the name that the senator bears, and thankfully there is no direct relation to the former President and Senator John D. Kennedy.
I am writing to urge you, on behalf of every Arab-American, and every decent American, to censure senator John Neely Kennedy for the remarks and actions he directed towards Ms. Berry. Sen. Kennedy should be held responsible for evoking such racism in The People's House.
