An Open Letter

To: Sen. Hoeven, Rep. Fedorchak, Sen. Cramer

From: A constituent in Minot, ND

April 24

I am writing as a deeply concerned parent and constituent regarding the recently announced initiative by the Department of Health and Human Services under Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to create a national autism registry. This effort involves the collection of deeply personal medical data—including information on conditions like ADHD and autism—from electronic health records, insurance databases, and even consumer devices—without patient consent. This is a flagrant overreach and a likely violation of HIPAA. Our children’s sensitive medical information should never be accessible to the federal government without strict consent protocols and full transparency. The idea of a centralized federal database of people with neurological conditions is not only chilling—it is something I never imagined seeing in the United States of America. I urge you to immediately investigate the legality of this program and consider introducing or supporting legislation to defund or block this registry before irreparable harm is done. We cannot allow unelected bureaucrats to compile government watchlists of our children based on their diagnoses. This isn’t a partisan issue—it’s a constitutional one. I ask you to defend our privacy, our parental rights, and the basic liberties that this country was founded on.
