Block Increase for ICE and Mass Deportation in the "One Big Beautiful Bill" Act
To: Sen. Fetterman, Sen. McCormick
From: A constituent in Lititz, PA
June 30
As an elected representative, you have a solemn duty to uphold the fundamental rights and liberties enshrined in our Constitution. The proposed increase in funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in H.R. 1, the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act," not only fails to uphold these principles but actively undermines them. The $155.2 billion increase in immigration- and border-enforcement funding would enable the Trump administration to escalate its unlawful and inhumane detention and deportation activities. The construction of new detention facilities, hiring of thousands of additional ICE officers, and deployment of military personnel to enforce immigration laws are antithetical to our nation's values of due process and human rights. This budget proposal would perpetuate the systematic violation of constitutional rights, subjecting immigrants to arbitrary arrest, detention, and deportation without due process. It would further militarize our borders and communities, sowing fear and distrust among those who call this country home. As a representative of the people, it is your responsibility to safeguard the rights and liberties of all individuals within our borders, regardless of their immigration status. I urge you to reject any budget plan that increases funding for ICE and prioritizes draconian enforcement measures over human rights and due process. Our nation's commitment to justice and equality must be upheld, and this budget proposal undermines that commitment.
