I'm writing in support of the bill introduced by Senator Corey Booker called "Farmland for Farmers Act" which prevents corporate farms and corporations from buying land and driving up prices for real farmers. Farmland in Missouri has gone up about 175% in the last year and I don't even want to think about Kansas.
The Natl. Family Farm Coalition and more have endorsed this, as well as my organization - KC Young Farmers. We know that land is a big issue in Missouri and we don't want Kansas to follow suit. We want less foreign ownership and corporate ownership in farms and more family farms.
This is a bipartisan issue in a grassroots way. People in the countryside and rural areas do NOT want absentee buyers buying up the land. We need farmland to be locally owned and this should not be a controversial issue. Please support this bill in Kansas and encourage your fellow senators to do the same.
