Stop Partisan Gerrymandering — Protect Fair Representation
To: Sen. Husted, Sen. Moreno
From: A verified voter in Miamisburg, OH
May 9
The mid-decade redistricting wave sweeping the country is a direct attack on fair representation, and I need you to oppose it. Republicans in Texas, Florida, Tennessee, and elsewhere are redrawing maps mid-cycle purely to manufacture congressional seats — not because populations shifted, but because they can. Democrats in California are doing the same thing. This is gerrymandering by any honest definition, and it's corrupting the basic premise of democratic elections.
The numbers tell the story plainly. Republicans are targeting up to 14 additional seats through redrawn maps in six states. Tennessee just carved up the only Black-majority district in the state — Memphis — to eliminate the lone Democratic-held seat. Louisiana and Alabama are exploiting a Supreme Court ruling to roll back court-ordered maps that protected minority voting rights. These aren't neutral line-drawing exercises. They are calculated power grabs that dilute the votes of real people.
I want you to publicly oppose mid-decade partisan redistricting in any form, support federal legislation that would require independent redistricting commissions, and use every available tool to challenge maps drawn with explicit partisan or racial intent. Voters should choose their representatives — not the other way around.
