I am writing to express my strong opposition to Texas' restrictive abortion laws and to urge you to take action in protecting the health and autonomy of women across our state. As a woman who has personally undergone a dilation and curettage (D&C) procedure to survive, I know firsthand how critical access to reproductive healthcare is—not just for choice, but for survival. The near-total abortion ban in Texas, coupled with the threat of legal repercussions for doctors and medical providers, is putting countless women in danger. By limiting access to life-saving care, these laws force doctors to hesitate in providing essential treatment, even in cases of medical emergencies, miscarriages, and nonviable pregnancies. No woman should have to suffer unnecessary pain, trauma, or life-threatening complications because of restrictive policies that prioritize ideology over science and compassion. Medical decisions should be made by women and their doctors—not by politicians. The government should not dictate personal healthcare choices that can mean the difference between life and death. Texas must protect the rights of its residents by ensuring that doctors can provide necessary care without fear and that women are not forced to carry pregnancies that put their health and well-being at risk. I urge you to advocate for policies that restore access to comprehensive reproductive healthcare in Texas.
