My mother is 87 years old and she lives as an enhanced section 8 voucher holder in downtown Manhattan. Recently, HPD was going to raise her rent by over a 150%… I was pleasant surprised when they representative for Council Member Christopher Marte [District 1 – Lower Manhattan] contacted me and asked if he could assist with sorting out my mother’s rent debacle. I wish more elected officials took an interest in average citizen’s day to day like Mr. Marte.
