I’m writing in favor of H.R. 6533, the Military in Law Enforcement Accountability Act. I urge its passage if we ever get our Congress back to work.
The line between military force and civilian policing has been eroding for years, and this bill draws it back where it belongs — with real teeth and real accountability.
The bill does three things that matter for this election period:
Caps military support to civilian law enforcement at 30 days without congressional approval
Bans simultaneous service in both military and civilian law enforcement roles.
Gives individuals and local governments the right to sue in federal court when violations occur.
That last provision is critical. Oversight without enforcement is just paperwork. A private right of action means communities can actually hold bad actors accountable, not just wait for Congress to act.
This bill has real momentum. Please push for its passage. Thank you.
