Restore Full Funding to the National Weather Service

To: Sen. Hawley, Sen. Schmitt

From: A constituent in Trenton, MO

July 6

I’m writing as a concerned constituent following the deadly weather events in Texas, Kentucky, and other areas this year. The failure of early warning systems—especially around flooding and tornadoes—is deeply alarming. These events clearly show the devastating consequences of cuts to NOAA and the National Weather Service. When forecasters are short-staffed, when weather balloons aren’t launched, when local offices can’t operate 24/7, our communities are put at risk. I urge you to take immediate action to restore full funding and staffing to the NWS and NOAA. Lives depend on accurate, timely forecasts—especially as extreme weather becomes more common. Please make this a priority in upcoming budget decisions.
