Terminate the Federal War on Dissent

To: Sen. Hickenlooper, Rep. Crow, Sen. Bennet

From: A verified voter in Littleton, CO

August 11

Congress must immediately investigate the Trump administration’s weaponization of the DOJ and federal law enforcement against protesters, activists, journalists, organizers, and political opponents. Under NSPM-7 and related efforts, protected political beliefs, protest, and association are being treated as supposed indicators of “domestic terrorism.” Dissent is not terrorism. Protest is not a crime. Congress must establish a Church Committee-style investigation; subpoena DOJ, FBI, DHS, and White House officials and records; expose political surveillance, watchlists, targeting, and prosecutions; and prohibit federal funds from being used to investigate or prosecute people for constitutionally protected speech, protest, journalism, association, or political beliefs. No administration should have the power to label its political opposition a security threat and unleash federal law enforcement against it. Investigate. Subpoena. Defund these abuses. Protect the right to dissent.
