Subject: Investigate Mayor Adams and President Trump for Corruption.

To: Sen. Ernst, Rep. Nunn, Sen. Grassley

From: A constituent in Des Moines, IA

May 9

I am writing to demand an immediate congressional investigation into a deeply disturbing case of alleged corruption, judicial interference, and potential abuse of presidential power involving New York City Mayor Eric Adams and former President Donald J. Trump. According to verified reports, Mayor Adams was indicted on five federal counts including: • Bribery of a public official (18 U.S.C. § 201) • Wire fraud (18 U.S.C. § 1343) • Conspiracy to defraud the United States (18 U.S.C. § 371) • Soliciting illegal foreign campaign donations (52 U.S.C. § 30121) • Obstruction of justice (18 U.S.C. § 1505) These charges stemmed from documented evidence that Adams received over $100,000 in illegal contributions and gifts from Turkish officials in return for political favors, including the expedited opening of the Turkish consulate in Manhattan without necessary safety inspections. However, in a highly unusual move, the Trump administration’s Acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove directed the Department of Justice to dismiss these charges, citing “governance concerns” and Mayor Adams’ “cooperation with immigration enforcement.” This directive directly contradicted the findings of DOJ prosecutors, seven of whom resigned in protest, citing political interference and a possible quid pro quo arrangement. In April 2025, U.S. District Judge Dale Ho dismissed the case with prejudice and stated for the record that the dismissal “smacks of a bargain: dismissal of the Indictment in exchange for immigration policy concessions.” This strongly suggests that President Trump’s administration may have traded legal accountability for political loyalty — a corrupt abuse of power, and potentially a violation of 18 U.S.C. § 1512(c) (tampering with a proceeding) and 18 U.S.C. § 1001 (false statements and concealment). I am demanding that Congress: 1. Launch an immediate, full investigation into the dismissal of the Adams indictment. 2. Subpoena all DOJ communications related to the case, including directives from the White House. 3. Investigate potential violations of anti-corruption and obstruction of justice laws by former President Trump and his appointees. 4. Advance legislation to prohibit political interference in federal prosecutions. The American people deserve a government that upholds justice equally — not one where political allies are shielded from accountability. If this is allowed to stand, it sets a precedent that enables corruption at the highest levels of power to go unchecked. I urge you to take immediate action to defend the integrity of our justice system and to hold all involved — regardless of political position — accountable under the law.
