I am writing to ask that you support Kilmar Abrego Garcia and Democrats fighting for justice on his behalf. I was very proud to see Senator Chris van Hollen responding to the immoral and lawless Trump regime by actually boarding a plane to El Salvador to work for his release. It is the duty of Democratic Senators and House Representatives to speak for the voiceless victims of injustice and to loudly support your colleagues who take up the gauntlet against tyranny. If our country had two functioning parties, we would expected Republicans to advocate with the President on Mr. Abrego Garcia’s behalf. Unfortunately, the Republican members of Congress are at best cowards, or at worst, actively complicit in the cruelty, fraudulence, and criminality of Trump’s vicious gang of lunatics and liars.
Yet it is not only for Mr. Abrego Garcia and his family that we must repulse the anti-democratic and unconstitutional efforts of Trump and his oligarchs. For, he has ambitions to apply this same mechanism not only to those who are refugees and migrants. Next, he wants to send American citizens to the torture facilities in El Salvador and likely elsewhere. He is already floating that idea on the Fox News propaganda channel. History teaches us what happens then. After that, it will be those, like me, who speak out against his regime. It will those, like you, who are permitted to populate a powerless “opposition party,” but who go too far in speaking out against the dictator.
If Trump and JD Vance, and the rest of his gaggle of demagogues, fascists, and authoritarians are to be stopped, they must be stopped now. We cannot cede this ground in hopes that Trump won’t go farther. He will go farther. He will go as far as we let him. So, I beg for you to speak out for Mr. Abrego Garcia because he has been wronged by tyrannical and cruel regimes in at least two countries. But, more than that, I beg you to speak out for all of us, because we are next.
