Struggling households rely on SNAP

To: Sen. Cornyn, Sen. Cruz, Rep. Van Duyne

I am writing regarding the imminent depletion of funds in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Immediate action is vital to avert a state- and nation-wide food crisis. Nearly 3.5 million Texans rely on SNAP. Nationally, more than 40 million Americans receive SNAP benefits, including 16 million children, 8 million older adults, and 4 million individuals with disabilities. Many households are already struggling, and ensuring continued SNAP support will provide them with the necessary means to purchase essential food items, fostering stability and community well-being. Without swift intervention, millions of hard-working families face the prospect of going hungry next month, putting their Thanksgiving meals at risk. My wife and I urge you to ensure the USDA fully utilizes all available means, including contingency reserves, to maintain SNAP funding and prevent widespread hunger among Americans. You have the ability to guarantee families can put food on the table in November and enjoy Thanksgiving.
