February 7

I am writing as your constituent regarding the February 13 DHS funding vote. New polling released today makes my position even more urgent. Defund ICE. Abolish this agency. Vote NO. The Marist/NPR/PBS poll released this morning shows that 65% of Americans now say ICE has gone too far. Sixty percent disapprove of ICE's performance. Sixty-two percent say ICE is making Americans less safe, not more safe. This is not a fringe position. This is the mainstream American view. Meanwhile, the data exposes the administration's lie about targeting dangerous criminals. Analysis of ICE's own data shows that 92% of ICE's detention growth in fiscal year 2026 has been people with no criminal convictions. The administration claims to target "the worst of the worst" while arresting restaurant workers, farmhands, and people attending immigration court hearings. A federal judge in Minneapolis has documented that ICE violated nearly 100 court orders in January alone—more violations in one month than some federal agencies commit in their entire existence. This is an agency operating in contempt of the judiciary. The Justice Department is now charging 150+ peaceful protesters with federal crimes carrying years in prison. The administration is criminalizing dissent while ICE operates above the law. Eight days remain until February 13. I expect each of you to vote NO on any DHS funding legislation. The American people have spoken. Listen to them.
