DOGE is planning a hackathon at the IRS to get easier access to taxpayer data. They really referenced Peter Thiel’s Palantir as a partner in creating a “mega API” a bridge that lets software systems talk to each other for accessing IRS data. Two DOGE operative are helping to orchestrate the hackathon. Sam Corcos is health tech CEO with ties to Space X and Gavin Kliger is a special advisor to OPM. This move would make IRS data more cloud accessible which could make it the read center of all IRS systems meaning anyone with access could view and manipulate the data in one place. They are first working to apply the API to the mainframes then will move on yo every other internal system. This will touch all IRS data including social security numbers,tax return and employment data and names and addresses. Currently IRS data is purposefully compartmentalized. Access to the systems requires special permissions and withers are granted access on a need to know basis. The API can allow someone with access to all the systems the ability to export it to a private entity. The systems in use have all gone through a tedious approval process to assure the security of taxpayer data. 50 IRS technologists including the director of cyber security, the director of security risk management and the chief information security officer were placed on leave so they could implement their diabolical plan unopposed. This plan is just an open door to America’s most sensitive data for Musk and Thiel with none of the rules that safeguard data. It goes against everything we are taught about cybersecurity and safety. It is worse than every warning sign we are taught to look out hit as federal employees. They will use this data so they don’t have to pay taxes and to change their returns. At the same time as this is going on they are planning a huge RIF at the IRS. The IRS brings in 100 dollars for every 35 cents that is spent. It brings in the revenue so obviously it is not about efficiency and waste to cut the workers who bring in the money. Over 5 million people across the country including in red rural towns attended peaceful protests today because they are furious that this country is heading to authoritarianism yet it was not covered correctly in the media who said thousands showed up to protests. Do not allow this cybersecurity nightmare to happen.
