Block Todd Blanche's Nomination and Reject Trump's IRS Immunity Deal

To: Rep. Chu, Sen. Schiff, Sen. Padilla

From: A verified voter in Pasadena, CA

August 4

Vote no on Todd Blanche's nomination to lead the Department of Justice. The Senate Judiciary Committee votes Tuesday, and this confirmation must not go forward. Blanche has already demonstrated he will use the DOJ to protect Trump's personal financial interests — including a settlement that grants Trump, his two eldest sons, and their businesses broad immunity from IRS audits. A previous IRS audit of Trump's finances could have cost him over $100 million. That liability doesn't disappear because Blanche signed an order — it gets buried. The so-called termination of the $1.8 billion "anti-weaponization fund" is a shell game. Legal experts have pointed out that one party cannot unilaterally cancel a binding settlement agreement, and Trump has already threatened to revive the fund if Blanche isn't confirmed. Nothing in Blanche's order prevents the DOJ from cutting individual settlements with Trump allies, and nothing stops Blanche from resurrecting the fund after confirmation. Cornyn and Tillis accepted a promise that isn't legally enforceable. Beyond the corruption, Blanche has endorsed sending armed federal agents to polling places. He refused at his confirmation hearing to pledge he wouldn't do it. Confirming him hands the president a loyalist at the top of the DOJ with the power to intimidate voters and shield the Trump family from accountability. Block this nomination.
