Stop the Lies and Start Governing
To: Sen. Schmitt
From: A verified voter in Springfield, MO
November 6
I received your form letter about the government shutdown, and I am appalled by how riddled it is with distortions, half-truths, and outright lies. Your attempt to shift blame to Democrats is pure political theater — and frankly, an insult to the intelligence of your constituents.
You claim Democrats “held the budget process hostage” to demand “healthcare coverage for illegal aliens.” That’s not only false — it’s shameless fearmongering. The truth is, the shutdown was caused by the chaos and infighting within your own party. Republicans control both chambers, yet can’t agree among themselves long enough to keep the government running. That’s not leadership — that’s failure.
You also talk about “restoring fiscal accountability.” Spare us. You and your party had no problem blowing up the deficit with trillion-dollar tax cuts for billionaires and corporations. But when it comes to investing in healthcare, education, or programs that actually help working people, suddenly you rediscover “fiscal discipline.” That’s not accountability — that’s hypocrisy.
You say you’re “doing everything in your power to be part of the solution.” From where I sit, you’re part of the problem — a party that has surrendered to extremism, spends more time manufacturing outrage than solving problems, and seems allergic to the truth.
Missourians deserve facts, honesty, and leaders who care more about their country than their political careers. Start telling the truth, stop parroting party propaganda, and do the job you were elected to do: govern.
Also, APOLOGIZE to me for all of the lies. I'm sending your letter to all media outlets because it is disgusting!
