Reject the Census Bureau's Anonymous Noncitizen Voting Report and Oppose the SAVE America Act
To: Sen. Murray, Sen. Cantwell, Rep. DelBene
From: A verified voter in Bothell, WA
August 19
Block the SAVE America Act and reject the Census Bureau's anonymous, methodologically bankrupt report being used to justify it. This report — which has no listed authors, no named department, and no transparent methodology — is not science. It is political cover for voter suppression.
The report claims 24,000 noncitizens voted in 2020 out of 128 million voters. Even taken at face value, that is less than two-hundredths of one percent — nowhere near enough to change any election outcome. But experts say the numbers themselves are unreliable. Beth Jarosz of Georgetown's Massive Data Institute said the report "lacks transparency and accountability." Omar Noureldin of Common Cause pointed out that the data used are "modeled population estimates, not evidence that 24,000 people voted illegally." The Census Bureau never validated the private voter data it used, which is a fundamental departure from its own standard practices.
This is part of a broader pattern of politicizing the Census Bureau — scrapping race and ethnicity data collection, eliminating privacy protections, and now publishing anonymous propaganda to manufacture a crisis that doesn't exist. My vote and my neighbors' votes deserve better than this. Vote no on the SAVE America Act and demand the Census Bureau restore its independence and scientific integrity.
