I’m a Democrat. I’m a constituent. And I’m alarmed by your lack of urgency in resisting the resurgence of Donald Trump’s fascist movement.
Yes, you vote the right way. But voting no is the bare minimum. We are facing an authoritarian threat that thrives on fear, silence, and false equivalency. Trump is not just another bad president. He is an aspiring autocrat whose entire movement depends on projecting strength and silencing opposition. Fascists are fragile—they rely on spectacle, obedience, and the illusion of popular support. Exposing their weakness breaks the spell.
Where is your creativity? Where is your willingness to disrupt the narrative? I see Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Bernie Sanders rallying in red states, showing Americans that bold Democratic leadership can be joyful, righteous, and unafraid. I see Cory Booker delivering the longest Senate speech in history. I see Chris Van Hollen flying to El Salvador to confront a foreign government about due process. These are acts of political imagination and courage. We need more of that—from you.
The American people need to see what resistance looks like. We need you to be louder, riskier, and more visible. Hold town halls in red districts whose representatives refuse to hold town halls. Call press conferences in front of shuttered post offices, broken levees, or crumbling bridges. Force votes that embarrass the GOP. Refuse to normalize a man who tried to overthrow our democracy and promises to do it again.
We don’t need more carefully crafted statements or empty symbolic gestures. We need action that reveals who Trump really is—a petty, vindictive man whose strength is a facade and whose movement collapses when exposed to real opposition.
Show us the path forward. Because if you won’t lead in this moment, someone else will—and history won’t remember those who sat on the sidelines.
