Stop KOSA!

To: Rep. DeSaulnier, Sen. Butler, Sen. Padilla

From: A constituent in Martinez, CA

July 23

I am once again writing to encourage you to oppose the Kids Online Safety Act, or KOSA. This misleadingly-named bill would give state Attorneys General sweeping powers of online censorship, allowing far-right extremists to unilaterally remove LGBTQ-friendly content from the internet. It would also impose strenuous user verification requirements, stifling smaller platforms and eroding digital privacy while failing to actually address how children are put in danger. Many of KOSA’s supporters have good intentions, but the bill is a wolf in sheep’s clothing that will empower authoritarians and harm free speech.
