Demand for Congressional Oversight and Accountability of DOGE
To: Sen. Hawley, Sen. Schmitt
From: A verified voter in Kansas City, MO
March 17
I am writing to demand immediate and serious congressional oversight of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Recent reporting makes it clear that DOGE has operated in a manner that raises profound concerns about legality, transparency, and the stability of our federal government. DOGE’s early actions have been described as chaotic, involving aggressive pressure campaigns and a disregard for established rules and procedures. Rather than implementing thoughtful, lawful reform, its approach appears to be dismantling existing structures without clear plans for replacement. Even more concerning, DOGE has been linked to mass firings, disruption of essential government functions, and widespread confusion across federal agencies. Large numbers of federal employees have been removed or pushed out, leaving agencies struggling to carry out basic responsibilities. There are also serious legal concerns. Experts have raised alarms that DOGE’s actions may violate federal laws governing privacy, data access, and the separation of powers. These are not minor procedural issues—they strike at the core of lawful governance. Additionally, DOGE has reportedly been granted sweeping access to sensitive government systems and data while operating with minimal transparency and unclear lines of authority. This lack of accountability is unacceptable in a democratic system. Congress has a constitutional duty to provide oversight of the executive branch. That responsibility does not disappear simply because actions are labeled as “efficiency” or “reform.” In fact, those labels make scrutiny even more essential. I urge you to: • Hold immediate oversight hearings on DOGE’s actions and authority • Demand full transparency regarding its decision-making, personnel, and data access • Investigate potential violations of federal law and constitutional limits • Protect federal workers and ensure agencies can continue to serve the American people effectively The American people deserve a government that is efficient, but also lawful, transparent, and accountable. What we are seeing instead is disruption without accountability—and that should concern every member of Congress, regardless of party. I expect you to take this issue seriously and to act in defense of both your constituents and the Constitution.
