Demand immediate ceasefire, support Palestinian rights and self-determination
To: V.P. Harris
From: A constituent in Brooklyn, NY
August 20
I am writing to urge you to take immediate action to secure a permanent ceasefire and end the ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people. The death toll from Israel's military assault on Gaza has surpassed 40,000, with countless more injured and displaced. Investigations have uncovered horrific human rights abuses, including torture, starvation, and extrajudicial killings of Palestinian prisoners held without charge. This systematic violence, enabled by $20 billion in US weapons sales to Israel, constitutes a blatant attempt at ethnic cleansing that cannot be tolerated. While Israel falsely portrays Palestinian resistance as "terrorism," it is an indigenous people's rightful struggle for self-determination against decades of oppression, occupation, and dispossession. Dehumanizing rhetoric about Palestinians being inherently violent has allowed this slaughter to continue with impunity. We must reject this dangerous narrative and recognize Palestinians' fundamental humanity and rights. As a lawmaker, you have the power to pressure Israel to cease its unconscionable attacks and negotiate a just peace. Failing to do so implicates the United States in these war crimes and undermines our nation's moral standing. I implore you to use your influence to demand an immediate, permanent ceasefire and support the Palestinian people's struggle for freedom and dignity. Continued military aggression will only breed further insecurity and violence for all.
