I urge you to protect the Boundary Waters and vote no on Joint Resolution 140.
- Using the Congressional Review Act to strip protections for the Boundary Waters watershed creates a dangerous precedent for public lands across the country.
- Furthermore, opening this area to copper mining will not aid national security - in fact, it benefits international interests over those of the United States. If approved, a Chilean-owned mining company will strip our natural resources only to ship them to China for processing. This is not America first.
- The Boundary Waters is the most visited Wilderness in the U.S.
- Copper mining near here poses an unacceptable risk to the clean water, wildlife, unique ecosystem, treaty rights and surrounding communities.
- The Boundary Waters is an economic engine for Minnesota. The $1.1 billion tourism economy in northeastern Minnesota includes 17K jobs and powers local business.
Please have the leadership to protect America’s public lands and our shared natural legacy for future generations.
