I am writing to express my deep alarm and outrage at the actions of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the lack of accountability surrounding its conduct. The shooting in Minneapolis of an observer at point-blank range is unacceptable. The subsequent decision by the Trump administration to shut down the investigation and place blame on the victim is equally unacceptable. No law enforcement agency should be permitted to operate without transparency or consequence for such extreme use of force. At the same time, U.S. citizens are being detained by ICE for extended periods of time in appalling conditions, and immigrants are being subjected to similarly inhumane treatment. These practices violate basic human rights and undermine the values this country claims to uphold. This situation is absolutely horrific. I urge you to publicly denounce these actions, demand accountability for abuses of power, and support meaningful reforms that ensure humane treatment, oversight, and respect for civil liberties. Silence and inaction only enable further harm. Our country must do better. I call on you to act.
