Support the No Getting Rich in Congress Act - Stocks Ban

To: Rep. Liccardo, Sen. Padilla, Sen. Schiff

March 10

Today I take pen in hand to write and urge you to co-sponsor and vote for the No Getting Rich in Congress Act, the only proposal that actually closes the loopholes in Trump's stock trading ban. The deceptively named “Stop Insider Trading Act” that Trump supports is completely inadequate and full of loopholes to get around his alleged ‘ban’. It’s toothless and meaningless legislation that lets lawmakers keep stocks they already own, meaning they can still pass or kill legislation to boost their portfolios. They can still buy stocks on behalf of their parents and collect the dividends later through inheritance. And it doesn't touch the executive or judicial branches at all. Rep. Joe Morelle got it right: "The title of the bill suggests that it's a ban on members of Congress owning stock. But it doesn't do that. Not at all." Instead, the No Getting Rich in Congress Act is the real solution. It bans lawmakers, the president, and vice president from trading individual stocks, futures, commodities, and cryptocurrency. It covers spouses and dependents, bars service on corporate boards, and includes strict enforcement with actual penalties. Only the Democratic bill is serious about ending insider trading. I urge your support for Rep. Stevens bill because it actually does what it says. Thank you.
