Strongly oppose unconstitutional overreach of H.R. 722

To: Sen. Kim, Rep. Norcross, Sen. Booker

From: A constituent in Somerdale, NJ

February 2

I share your opposition to H.R. 722, which would severely restrict reproductive rights and personal freedoms across the nation. This concerning bill seeks to implement a definition of equal protection under the 14th Amendment that would grant legal personhood to fetuses from the moment of conception. Such a sweeping measure would effectively ban abortion nationwide with no exceptions, overriding the constitutional rights upheld by decades of Supreme Court precedent and undermining the ability of individuals to make deeply personal healthcare decisions for themselves. Enshrining one specific belief about the beginnings of life into federal law would trample on the religious freedoms of those who hold different views. Moreover, it would endanger the health and lives of pregnant individuals by prohibiting abortions even in cases of severe fetal abnormalities, serious health risks to the mother, or pregnancies resulting from rape or incest. This unconstitutional overreach represents an unacceptable government intrusion into private medical matters that should remain between a patient and their doctor. Given the substantial threats H.R. 722 poses to reproductive autonomy, equality, and established civil liberties, I urge you to firmly oppose this radical legislation. Protecting the constitutional rights of all Americans must remain the highest priority.
