No funding for ICE without restrictions on their lethal behavior

To: Sen. Cantwell, Rep. Larsen, Sen. Murray

From: A constituent in Clinton, WA

January 22

I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the unchecked violence and abuse perpetrated by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Border Patrol. The recent tragic killing of Renee Good in Minneapolis is a stark example of the devastating consequences of this lack of oversight. I urge you to take immediate action to protect our communities by refusing to vote for any appropriations bill for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) that fails to significantly rein in ICE and Border Patrol. Specifically, I demand that you: 1. Oppose increased funding for ICE and Border Patrol, including funding for detention. 2. Support appropriations bills for DHS that include restrictions on ICE and Border Patrol's dragnet arrest operations and discriminatory targeting; an end to Border Patrol deployment to our cities; and limits on DHS's ability to reprogram and transfer funds, particularly those intended for detention. As a member of Congress, you have the power to prevent future deaths by demanding accountability and limiting the administration's authority. I expect you to stand up for the safety and rights of all people in our communities. It's only a matter of time before ICE kills one of your constituents.
