Vote NO on OBBBA

To: Rep. McClintock, Sen. Padilla, Sen. Schiff

From: A verified voter in Oakdale, CA

July 3, 2025

I am writing as a constituent from Oakdale, CA to urge you to vote no on H.R. 1, known as the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. This legislation presents several troubling provisions: 1. Massive cuts to Medicaid, SNAP, and health insurance: The Congressional Budget Office estimates that OBBBA would cause roughly 10–11 million Americans to lose health insurance, slash Medicaid, and eliminate vital food assistance—affecting millions of low-income families. 2. Expanding health restrictions: The bill restricts Medicaid coverage for gender-affirming care for all ages, bans abortion-provider funding, and adds burdensome work requirements. 3. Huge tax breaks for the wealthy: It extends unpopular 2017 tax cuts—projected to cost about $4 trillion over ten years—and raises the SALT deduction cap to benefit upper-income individuals. 4. Massive deficit increase: The bill is expected to add $2.4–2.8 trillion to the national debt, heightening economic vulnerabilities. 5. Weakening clean-energy progress: By scaling back clean energy credits and undermining environmental investments, it risks up to 830,000 clean‑energy jobs and higher energy costs. Given these outcomes, this bill appears tilted toward wealthy interests at the expense of vulnerable and working-class families—and jeopardizes our fiscal future. I respectfully urge you to oppose H.R. 1 and stand up for accessible healthcare, environmental sustainability, and fiscal responsibility. Thank you for representing our community’s best interests.
