Oppose SF1192

To: Gov. Walz, Rep. Johnson, Sen. Seeberger

From: A constituent in Hastings, MN

February 27, 2025

I am writing to express my strong opposition to SF1192, which, as currently written, could have devastating consequences for children in Minnesota who suffer from serious and potentially fatal medical conditions. While I understand the aim of the bill, regardless of my opposition to it, its broad and imprecise language would, in practice, prevent healthcare providers from offering necessary, evidence-based treatments to children in critical need. The bill’s restrictions could interfere with a physician’s ability to provide life-saving care to children diagnosed with diseases such as cancer, severe autoimmune disorders, or other life-threatening conditions. In some cases, medical treatments that involve hormonal therapies, genetic interventions, or other advanced procedures are essential to sustaining a child’s health and survival. Under this bill, however, these treatments could be denied or delayed, leading to irreparable harm or even preventable deaths. Medical decisions should be made by doctors, patients, and families—not dictated by overly broad legislative mandates. By limiting healthcare professionals’ ability to provide the best available treatment options, SF1192 would place children at unnecessary risk and compromise the integrity of pediatric medical care in our state. I urge you to oppose this bill and instead support policies that protect access to essential, life-saving healthcare for Minnesota’s children. I would appreciate the opportunity to discuss this matter further and look forward to your response.
