Oklahoma Senator Markwayne Mullin has been nominated to lead the Department of Homeland Security, one of the most critical national security positions in the federal government. The job demands steady leadership, sound judgment, and respect for democratic institutions. Yet, he has a history of election denialism, supporting wrongful detention of U.S. citizens, valid visa holders, and asylum seekers by ICE, supporting the end of birthright citizenship, and unhinged behavior in which he challenged the president of the Teamsters union to a physical fight. Futhermore, his educational background does not even include a bachelor’s degree, which should be the bare minimum for a job of this magnitude. His failure to support the rights of US citizens and legal asylum seekers to be safe from ICE detention should alone be disqualifying. Please vote NO and do NOT confirm Markwayne Mullin as DHS Secretary.
