I’m writing to urge you to Vote NO on H.R. 6213, this Republican deceptively-named Heat Workforce Standards Act.
This bill doesn't set any standards — it strips OSHA of the authority to create or enforce any national heat safety law, now or ever.
Cities are breaking all-time heat records this July, and Congress's response should not be to permanently handcuff the agency responsible for keeping workers alive.
Heat-related deaths and illnesses are already undercounted because they're not always recorded as such. OSHA proposed the nation's first heat safety standard in 2024, and it still hasn't been implemented.
H.R. 6213 would slam the door on that progress entirely. And the argument that this helps business doesn't hold — unaddressed heat exposure costs employers $7.8 billion a year and kills more than 500 workers annually.
Protecting workers from heat is common sense, and blocking those protections is indefensible. Vote NO. Thank you.
