BAD LOOK TEXAS

To: Gov. Abbott, Sen. Perry, Lt. Gov. Patrick, Rep. Murr

From: A verified voter in Mason, TX

April 26

Greetings. I am a voting constituent in rural west Texas. Reading with displeasure about our Governor sending in the storm troopers to UT to preemptively squash student protests. It’s apparent that segments of our state government don’t like anything about the thought of higher learning. Higher learning that involves the concept of free thinking. Free thinking that leads to opinions about the world around them. Free thinking that leads to strong sentiments about what is right and what is wrong. That fosters a strong belief that the actions of the individual can make a difference in the world. If you don’t like something, use the power of protest make the point. Peaceful protest is not a crime. It is a requirement and right of citizenry in a free country. College campuses are the epicenter of change. Arresting students for no good cause is not a good look. Unless the goal is to project semblance of a police state. In which case, mission accomplished. Surely you must know that the more efforts made to quell free speech (which I’m pretty sure the Gov is in theory a big proponent of), the more unrest is fomented. Nothing makes a young person more intent than to tell them to sit down and shut up. Caring about the plight of people being killed is not a crime. Maybe you best read up on Kent State the next time the urge hits to dominate the young trying to change the world.
