Why aren’t you negotiating to end the government shutdown?

To: Sen. Hawley, Sen. Schmitt

From: A verified voter in Kansas City, MO

November 3

I am writing to ask why you refuse to negotiate with Democrats to end the government shutdown. Every day this continues, it hurts working Americans and the very constituents you were elected to represent. Why do you insist on supporting this corrupt administration instead of standing up for what’s right? The Speaker of the House won’t even swear in the newly elected congresswoman. This is a blatant disregard for democracy, yet you remain silent. Why won’t you speak out? You’ve ignored the numerous Hatch Act violations and other abuses of power, sending the message that lawlessness is acceptable as long as it serves your party’s interests. It’s disgraceful. The midterms will show exactly how the American people feel about this kind of failed leadership. If you don’t want to represent your constituents with integrity and courage, then don’t run for Congress. We deserve better.
