The 14th Amendment's birthright citizenship provision is a cornerstone of American democracy and civil rights, as affirmed by the Supreme Court in the 1898 case. Any attempts to restrict this enshrined constitutional right through legislation or executive order undermine our nation's founding principles. We must vigorously defend birthright citizenship against the proposed House bill H.R. 569 and President Trump's executive order, which would create a discriminatory two-tier system denying millions of U.S.-born children their rightful citizenship. Both measures improperly reinterpret the 14th Amendment's clear language extending citizenship to "all persons born or naturalized in the United States." This attack on birthright citizenship targets immigrant families and communities of color. Affirming equal rights and rejecting measures that sow division is crucial for upholding American ideals of equality and inclusion. I urge you to forcefully oppose any legislation or policies that subvert the 14th Amendment's birthright citizenship protections.
