Can we please disabuse the notion that the Grand Old Party revers and protects women? That great consideration should always be shown to ‘the weaker sex’? That the chivalry of the Old South is alive and well and men in their party would happily resolve any slur or insult to virtuous womanhood by a duel to the death to protect her honor? Where are these men while a convicted sexual predator sits in the Oval Office escalating and perfecting his insults against women reporters doing their job in an increasingly hostile and demeaning environment? It’s so very easy to talk about the bravery of men under pressure. So where is the bravery of men in confronting a misogynist bully? You don’t even need a duel. Or a gun. You only need words. But that seems the hardest bravery of all these days. When the president insults women, he brings the viciousness of his followers down on them as well. He incites. He gives permission. He makes it seem okay. And encourages others to behave the same way. He denigrates by example. And this is his cowardly weapon of choice. Incitement to take action by others while he starts the fire and denies any culpability. So the next time y’all start going on about protecting women and girls please just STFU. Or display some actual concern and say some words in support of women doing their jobs. And while you’re at it, release the Epstein files.
