Hold hearings on Login.gov and block OMB M-26-18, the mandate ordering every federal agency onto a single sign-in platform that is quietly becoming a national identity system. No bill has been introduced. No public vote has been held. Americans are being enrolled in infrastructure that can track them across every federal agency without ever being told that's what they signed up for. The man now running Login.gov, Greg Hogan, was found by a federal judge to have given a sworn account that was not credible while serving as OPM's chief information officer. He was placed in charge of a platform that already reports 180 million accounts spanning 54 agencies. GSA has added a verification pathway that produces the same IAL2 identity credential without any photograph or biometric check, and has begun assigning 20-year tracking cookies to every browser that visits the site, with no privacy notice and no cookie disclosure. The platform also transmits a "suspected fraud" label tied to a person's Social Security number to LexisNexis, a company with an active contract with ICE, with no standard for what triggers that label and no way for the person it describes to see or challenge it. This is the argument Larry Ellison made in 2001, rebuilt one agency mandate at a time: the data already exists, connecting it is just an administrative improvement. Congress rejected that logic then. The same answer is needed now, before Login.gov becomes the gate every American must pass through to access their own government.
