Negotiate with Democrats to end this shutdown

To: Sen. Hawley, Rep. Wagner, Sen. Schmitt

From: A constituent in Saint Louis, MO

October 2, 2025

For the past several months, Missourians, and all Americans, have watched Republicans gut programs and hurt Americans. You have cut funding for public education, you have cut healthcare, you have allowed the president to unlawfully control funding for government programs. And you have also allowed DOGE to fire thousands of government workers. This administration does not need the excuse of a government shut down to fire federal workers. Saying so is asking the American people to ignore what we've seen. Republicans cannot ask Democrats to operate per usual. The public has seen how you are choosing to govern, continuing to trip away support designed to help low and middle income folks in this country. Enough is enough. Ensure that ACA healthcare subsidies are extended, protective Medicaid, protect the power of the purse. That is the negotiation necessary to keep this government running. That is the negotiation necessary to keep your jobs in the next election. Missourians are not blind nor stupid. Stand up for us.
