The judiciary's role as a check on executive and legislative power dates back to the landmark Marbury v. Madison case in 1803, which established the principle of judicial review. Ignoring a court order undermines this fundamental tenet of our constitutional system of government. Despite a federal judge's temporary restraining order to unfreeze billions in funding, evidence suggests the administration has not fully complied. This defiance of a lawful court order is concerning and sets a dangerous precedent that erodes faith in our institutions and the rule of law. Upholding the constitution is the president's sworn duty. Willfully disobeying court orders transgresses this oath and impeachment exists as a remedy for such egregious violations of public trust. Preserving our system of checks and balances is vital to maintaining a functional democracy. Appropriate steps must be taken to compel adherence to the judicial ruling and hold accountable any defiance thereof.
