Many features of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (H.R. 1) should be greatly modified, especially features that strip assistance from the neediest of us and give it to the least needy in the form of tax breaks. This is simply immoral.
However there are at least 2 sections of the bill that should be stripped out entirely: Section 70302, Restriction on Enforcement, and Section 43201, Artificial Intelligence and Information Technology Modernization Initiative, paragraph (c), Moratorium.
The former restricts courts from enforcing "[compliance] with an injunction or temporary restraining order" in many cases. This is illegitimate interference with the operation of the Judicial Branch and the rule of law. It undermines being a country of laws as opposed to a country ruled by the whims of a wannabe dictator.
The latter prevents states and local jurisdictions from regulating artificial intelligence for 10 years. This is an unnecessary trespass on the rights of states and local jurisdictions. Republicans have traditionally been on the side of states rights, and this abandons that principle. It also is unnecessary to promote development of a nascent artificial intelligence industry.
Both these sections should be stripped from the bill.
